The first participants of the Mobile Cooking School completed the course and graduated. The Mobile Cooking School is a joint health initiative by the Hidalgo County Wellness Program and Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service. The classes are for Hidalgo County employees who want to improve their long term health by changing their eating habits.
Each class is led by County Extension Agent Andrea Valdez and Wellness Program Coordinator Diana Huallpa. During the month long program, employees are taught an easy and healthy recipe, then they make the recipe there in the class with their fellow classmates. This gives them an opportunity to learn and ask questions during the cooking process. They also received tips making healthier food choices while they cooked.
Congratulations to all the graduates!
the first participants at the mobile cooking school completed the course and graduated the mobile cooking school is a joint initiative by the Hidalgo County wellness program in Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service the classes are for Hidalgo County employees who want to improve their long-term health by changing their eating habits each class is led by County Extension agent Andrea Valdez and wellness program coordinator Deanna wobba at the beginning when we started developing the Wellness Program one of our main focus was nutrition and we knew that Texas A&M AgriLife Extension here at Otago has a really good curriculum on nutrition so we wanted to make sure we come together and help our employees and this is a class for 15 participants and every class we have it every Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:00 here at the Extension office so each class will focus on a different topic we either food safety MyPlate how to read a nutrition label or sugar shockers and hydration so each class we try to promote healthy eating that's quick and fast and nutritious for the whole family during the month-long program employees are taught and easy and healthy recipe during each session then they make that recipe in the class with their fellow co-workers this gives them an opportunity to learn and ask questions during the cooking process while they cook they also get tips on how to make healthier food choices and one of my favorite parts of the class was that the tips that our instructor would give us I would take notes during the class and that was my favorite part I also realized how to combine the vegetables and the fruits together it's a lot easier for me to get home and do something really quick and light many of the employees who participated said the class opened their eyes to what foods are healthy and which are not many times we don't even realize that some of the foods that we're eating will cause us to feel more sluggish than what we should and especially if when we eat out and you go home and you're not exercising those type of foods release toxins in your system and then it just throws everything up we want to congratulate all the employees who took the class and made the decision to get healthy you
