hi everyone in this week's video we learn how to cook mung bean mung bean is commonly used in Asian dishes as a topping for sticky rice or as fillings for dumplings and desserts in this short video I share my shortcuts and tips for making this versatile filling so please join me here's what we will need 1 cup peeled split mung bean 1 in 1/2 cups water and 1/2 a teaspoon of salt let's start by measuring out the mung bean and adding it into a large bowl next we rinse the mung bean with water several times until the water runs clear we let the mung bean soak in the water for at least 4 hours but overnight is best after the beans are done soaking we rinse it one more time with water and then drain it well now put the mung bean into the rice cooker we add salt to the beans and then we combine everything together let's add the water then we use a spatula to smooth out the beans making a nice even layer in the rice cooker we let the beans cook in the rice cooker until the button pops up approximately 25 minutes you'll notice that I have a tray under my rice cooker and this is to catch some of the water that spills out when we're cooking mung beans it has a tendency to bubble over unlike rice so make sure to put a kitchen towel or tray underneath your rice cooker as soon as the rice cooker button pops up unplug the rice cooker now using a flat spoon we mash the beans inside the rice cooker continue mashing until you no longer see the individual bean and it starts to look like a thick mashed potato this takes about 2 to 3 minutes now we cover and allow to cook for another 10 minutes depending on how we wish to use the filling we can add sugar at this time to make it sweet or more salt to make it savory if we're using the mung bean as a filling for other dishes we can roll them into balls another common preparation for being is for it to be graded so that it could be sprinkled on sticky rice and other foods you can use a potato ricer if you have one if not try this shortcut scoop out the mashed mung bean and place it on plastic wrap using our hands we shape the mung bean into a small log we cover the logs with plastic wrap and allow them to cool once the log is cooled we remove the plastic wrap now we can easily grate the mung bean using a cheese grater and there we have it delicious grated mung bean ready to enjoy with our favorite dishes hi I hope you've enjoyed this easy how-to video if you have any questions or comments please feel free to post below for full recipes check out runaway rice calm I work on new recipes and post new videos every week so please subscribe to my channel to stay tuned this is Trang wishing you good eating and good health thanks for watching
